Set as an epic movie, 2020 blockbuster Tanhaji tells the story of a military chieftain in the Maratha army of King Shivaji, who commands the army alongside his younger brother. Having lost his father who had trained him in sword-fighting when he was younger, Tanhaji grows up to become a very powerful warrior.
When the news of Emperor Aurangzeb of Mughal dispatching his trusted guard, Udaybhan to take control of the Kondhana Fort leaks, Shivaji sets out to attack the army, while excluding his army commander, Tanhaji.
Shivaji’s decision is borne out of consideration of Tanhaji whose son is getting married soon. Although Shivaji keeps this from Tanhaji, the warrior eventually finds out and decides to fulfill his duty, take charge and stop the rival army from reaching their destination.
War erupts and it all ends in what Shivaji feared the most – Tanhaji’s death.
Although he fulfills his mission of capturing Kondhana before killing Udaybhan, Shivaji mourns Tanhaji’s demise on his arrival at Kondhana and praises the deceased warrior for his brave act. Emperor Aurangzeb is unable to subjugate Southern India in his quest for territorial expansion.
Co-produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Ajay Devgn, this Indian historical film is directed by Om Raut and features Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kajol, and Neha Sharma in lead roles.
